Averitt currently has openings for full-time Yard Switcher/ Local Driver.
Yard Switchers play a critical role in the timely movement of trailers in and out of the docks at our service center.
3rd shift 6pm-6am
Rotating 12 hour shift
At times running shuttle
Majority of time will be operating an ottawa truck spotting trailers
Some of the responsibilities of this position include:
- Perform pre/post shift safety inspections on equipment
- Hook/unhook trailers
- Frequent bending for placement of wheel chocks
- Lift/open trailer doors
- Slide trailer tandems when necessary
- Safely enter/exit yard tractor numerous times per shift
- Safely maneuver equipment with good backing skills

- 23 years of age
- 1 year full-time verifiable tractor- trailer experience within past 3 years preferred; for lesser experience see training options above
-Drivers must have Class A CDL with Hazmat & Tanker endorsements (tanker required for portable totes)
- No convictions for reckless driving within the past 5 years
- No convictions for DUI within the past 5 years
- No suspensions or revocations within the past 5 years
- No serious violations within the previous 12 months (15 mph or greater, following too closely, improper passing, traffic offenses committed in a CMV in connection with a fatality)
- No more than 1 moving violation within the past 12 months
- No more than 2 moving violations within past 3 years
- Load freight - lift requirement 80 lbs
- Unload freight - lift requirement 80lbs
